If you don’t save enough techs, you could get blocked. Some story quests require technologies to be researched. This strategy is generally more useful for campers rather than tech tree racers for this reason. Also, due to the long time it can take to scout sectors, be prepared to go slowly on the tech tree when trying to get higher era units. Note that these strategies can often be costly, especially if the player is planning on negotiating the Continent Map rather than fighting.
